On Thursday, August 22, 2019, Chamber members and the public attended the St Croix Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at the state-of-art Plessen Healthcare facility in Orange Grove (located on the bottom level of the GERS building).
Dr. Tasnin Kahn gave a heartfelt speech that outlined Plessen’s facility, mission and their dedication.
Thank you for coming tonight to join Plessen Healthcare at the St.Croix Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours.
Plessen Healthcare was founded in 2015 on the fundamental beliefs that world-class health care should be accessible to everyone and that the work-place should be a joyful and fulfilling practice for their entire team.
Built as a center of excellence, Plessen Healthcare comprises a state of the art, fully CMS accredited Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), where outpatient surgeries in multiple specialty disciplines including vascular, general surgery, orthopedics, pain management, ophthalmology and plastic, and cosmetic surgeries are performed. In addition, Plessen Healthcare’s full-service Medical Clinic provides adult general internal medicine and primary care as well as specialty care for all stages of kidney disease and hypertension. Plessen provides surgical and medical care for all who reside in the US Virgin Islands and surrounding territories, regardless of insurance status. We perform approximately 1400 surgeries each year in the ASC and see nearly 7,000 patients on an annual basis in our clinic.
The group’s multidisciplinary team is committed to providing the highest quality of care for the patient to improve clinical outcomes through educating, empowering and guiding every individual through their health care journey and providing an experience that improves their quality of life and well-being.
Plessen’s ASC has been fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC), since August 2015. Having successfully completed three accreditation surveys without any condition-level violations, Plessen has achieved and maintained a CMS deemed status. In our continued vision towards excellence, Plessen’s Medical Group has been certified by CMS as a designated Medical Home since 2017.
Plessen is a proud member of the St Croix community and is committed to contributing toward the causes which improve our island’s well-being. Since our inception, we have supported numerous local organizations, causes, and events, such as the St. Croix Environmental Association, St. Croix PRIDE, and St. Croix Foundation.
In September 2017, our territory was faced with unforeseen challenges in the aftermath of two category 5 hurricanes. The storms precipitated conditions that nearly depleted our medical resources and infrastructure. Following Hurricane Irma, Plessen sent providers to our sister islands to distribute medical supplies and aid. After Hurricane Maria, we expanded our services and hours of operation to meet the needs of our community which was faced with limited medical resources. In a time of unpredictable outcomes, Plessen was a steady, capable and reliable option, providing tremendous reassurance to our community.
Shortly after the storms, we hosted a Health Fair to gather as many medical providers and services as possible that remained open and ready for business and provided an opportunity for the community to connect with them. At the health fair participants were able to receive basic health screenings, information, and much needed guidance which allowed them to maintain some sense of hope and normalcy in such turbulent times.
Due to the damage to the dialysis unit from Hurricane Maria, patient’s dependent on dialysis were evacuated from St. Croix. The Plessen doctors were instrumental in helping the dialysis team evacuate these patients to the mainland to receive the lifesaving treatments and care they needed. Once the facility was re-established and St. Croix was able to meet their needs again 18 months later, Plessen was here to welcome the patients and families back home, to recognize their arduous journey and suffering away from home, to honor those of our dialysis family who had departed during this difficult time, and to celebrate Life.
Plessen Healthcare was deeply honored and humbled to be nominated by the Chamber as Business of the Year. Such recognition was graciously welcomed by our entire team.
We will continue to honor our vision and do so with the utmost dedication and professionalism.
Dr. Tawakol and I would like to acknowledge and express our sincere gratitude to each member of the Plessen Team. Without their diligence, dedication, compassion, and hard work, our vision and mission would not be a reality today.
We thank you for your support and are glad that you joined us this evening.
Be sure to follow our events calendar for our monthly Business After Hours Series (BAH) and other Chamber and Chamber Member events.
